I saw gorgeous piece and someone said it looked like Christmas, but I think. The red and green together look like Bloodstone. If you get a chance to look bloodstone up check it out, to me it resembles the rough cut of the stone. Thank you for sharing talent with us.. When I was about 15 or so I made several macrame hanging tables with light in them, but I also made tables’ to set in them and I used the reason for the top of my tables. The slabs of wood I got were were rough cut into slices, i kept the shape just as kit was. 😊

I know it gave you a fight, but it turned out very cool. The "spots" reminds me of a leopard or cheetah. I like the impression of a magenta "flower" on top. I do like that you mixed the saguaro and cholla (pronounced choya 😉). Designer Epoxy 😊

Very beautiful. But could the bubbles really be bits of air still escaping from the wood despite the epoxy coat? I mean you use the heat to remove the bubbles formed by such air, it dries over night and oh more bubbles to remove as expected. Could something still be getting through the epoxy into the final finish? You do sand it to remove the expocy bubbles so that may open micro-fractures in the epoxy so any last air can seep out. Maybe waiting another 24 hours before final would ensure no bubbles.

Re thermal cracks being in the middle of the cactus pieces - how rigid is the cactus wood? You mentioned it being particularly hard. if it's also very stiff compared to other types of wood, it could be that the lack of flexibility plays a role in the cracking. Something about this piece makes me think of dinosaur fossils. Very cool.

Sorry for your struggles with the piece, but it was worth it in the end, it looks great! I spent a while in El Paso as a child and there is a bit of sentimental value to the saguaro cacti, so watching you work with it gave me some nostalgic appreciation as well as the aesthetic. Excellent color choices and so glad you managed to fight through the trouble!
